September is Library Card Sign-Up Month and the St. Lucie County Library System is reminding residents that a free library card provides access to much more than books.
St. Lucie County libraries give cardholders free access to books and graphic novels, public computers, Wi-Fi, book club kits, memory kits, digital studios, and a growing Library of Things. Patrons can check out items such as blood pressure kits, Play 'n Learn kits, ukuleles, and birding kits at no cost. The libraries also offer a variety of free educational and recreational programs for all ages.
Free resources extend beyond the library branches. Cardholders can access eBooks and audiobooks, music and movies, genealogy tools, job and veteran resources, language-learning programs, and educational games and videos for children covering reading, math, science, art, and more from home.
Residents in Port St. Lucie can also take advantage of self-service options while the Port St. Lucie Branch Library is closed for reconstruction, including a book vending machine and holds pickup options at the Port St. Lucie Community Center, 2195 SE Airoso Blvd.
Throughout September, visitors can celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month by completing a library card design template and sharing why they love their library. The library system will display the designs throughout the month. St. Lucie County’s library system has a variety of cards to choose from, including ones that honor local artists, including country singer Gary Stewart and the Florida Highwaymen.
Whether you're looking for your next book, learning a new skill, researching your family history, helping your child learn, or borrowing something you didn't expect to find at a library, a free St. Lucie County library card opens the door to a wide range of resources at no cost for county residents.
St. Lucie County residents can sign up for a free library card at any St. Lucie County Library System branch. To explore library locations, programs, digital resources, and services, visit: stlucieco.gov/library.
